Comparative STM and RHEED studies of Ge/Si(001) and Si/Ge/Si(001) surfaces

Although epitaxial growth has been traditionally monitored by reciprocal space techniques, such as reflection highenergy electron diffraction (RHEED), the development of surface-sensitive imaging techniques, such as scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), allows for monitoring in the real-space. RHEED averages information over relatively large sample regions, and is thus more representative of the...

HRLEED AND STM STUDY OF MISORIENTED Si(lO0)

The growth of high quality Te on misoriented Si( 100) is important as an intermediate phase for epitaxial growth of CdTe. The misorientation angle plays a key role in the growth quality of CdTe/Si(100); this incited our curiosity to investigate the effect of the misorientation angle on the topography of the surface structure of Si( 100). Our main goal is to show the relation between the misorie...

Characterization of photovoltaics with In2S3 nanoflakes/p-Si heterojunction

We demonstrate that heterojunction photovoltaics based on hydrothermal-grown In2S3 on p-Si were fabricated and characterized in the paper. An n-type In2S3 nanoflake-based film with unique 'cross-linked network' structure was grown on the prepared p-type silicon substrate. It was found that the bandgap energy of such In2S3 film is 2.5 eV by optical absorption spectra. This unique nanostructure s...

Fabrication and characterization of p-Si/n-ZnO heterostructured junctions

In this paper ZnO nanorods and nanodots (with and without a SiO2 buffer layer) were grown on p-Si, forming p–n heterojunctions. The nanorod devices showed no visible electroluminescence (EL) emission but showed rectifying behavior. Covering around 60% of the length of the nanorods with PMMA produced an ideality factor of 3:91 0:11 together with a reverse saturation current of 6:53 4:2 10 8 A. U...

Low-temperature STM images of methyl-terminated Si(111) surfaces.

Low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) has been used to image CH(3)-terminated Si(111) surfaces that were prepared through a chlorination/alkylation procedure. The STM data revealed a well-ordered structure commensurate with the atop sites of an unreconstructed 1 x 1 overlayer on the silicon (111) surface. Images collected at 4.7 K revealed bright spots, separated by 0.18 +/- 0.01 ...
